Can I bring other art mediums? Do I have to use pastels?
Yes, you can bring other mediums. We are the Pastel Society of Alaska so pastels are high on the supply list, but both instructors are skilled oil & watercolor painters as well. They've invited everyone to bring any medium they are comfortable working in. The insights presented will work across all mediums.
Are the venues where we will be painting be accessible by wheelchair?
We think so and we're working hard to make sure all points are accessible. We're connecting with a Homer organization who specializes in accessibility and they will help us find the right places. We'll know more details as the event gets closer.
Is there room in the shared Airbnb?
At the moment there is one spot still available. If you are interested in sharing an Airbnb, contact Gina at akpastel@yahoo.com or 717-500-1208 and she'll connect you with other sharing painters. If there is enough interest, PSAK will help secure a second Airbnb to help defray costs.
What will the schedule look like?
June 1, Sunday night: we'll gather at a restaurant (TBA) at 6pm. Everyone will buy their own meal, but it will function as a welcome dinner with details for the week.
June 2-4, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: Workshop from 9am - 4pm with a 1-hour lunch break. The Homer Assembly of God church has graciously rented us space to meet every morning and in case of heavy rain. Address: 736 East End Rd, Homer, AK 99603. Evenings are free with possible fun activities for those who still have energy after supper.
June 5, Thursday: locations for pre-selected plein air sites with target times will be handed out at the workshop (TBA). The instructors will be on location at each spot as we leave Homer. Some of the spots will be on the Kenai Peninsula and others will be closer to Anchorage. All TBA information should be sent out to participants by the end of May.
What about food/meals?
Each painter will be responsible for their own food. Those living nearby and others staying at the Airbnb will have access to kitchens and can bring sack lunches if they choose. The Homer Chamber of Commerce will provide us with a list of delicious restaurants and coffee houses we can frequent. There are gluten-free and vegetarian dine-in options as well.
Is there transportation to Homer?
While transportation is up to each individual, many of the PSAK members have room in their cars and are willing to share rides. If you are interested in sharing a ride, contact Gina at akpastel@yahoo.com or 717-500-1208 and she'll connect you with other sharing painters.
I hear there's plein air painting on the way back to Anchorage on June 5. What will that look like?
