Best in Show:  A Travers Ton Ame (translation: Through Your Soul)- Artist Elizabeth Laflamme

Selecting Best in Show requires that all my criteria are met, and the white wolf certainly does that.  I feel as if I could stroke the fur between the wolf’s ears, but the intensity of his gaze stops me.  The technical expertise--the treatment of the wet nose and fur, the lost and found edges around the animal’s ruff and ears, and the light in the wolf’s amber eyes were exquisitely rendered.  The composition is all about the wary gaze of the wild animal – are we prey or predator?  It’s hard to look away.
